Hello, lovely people. I exist! I hope you all still exist as well; I have not read my flist in literal weeks. (December is the most horrid time of the entire year at my job; brain is not brain-ing. Petition to move Christmas to late January when I can enjoy it.) But a happy December to you all.

ANYWAYS. In the meantime, here is Chris Chibnall, out to give me hope for the future of Doctor Who in the form of James Bond tropes, omg:

I have important questions:

1) When did the production crew suddenly realize that being forthcoming with information about upcoming episodes is a strategy that can successfully entice people to watch?

2) Why do I feel so massively hopeful about the exciting James Bond-y-ness of this episode when Time Heist was such an appalling disappointment of a heist episode?

3) Are we actually getting a series after this New Year's special, and if so, when? The next week? Later in January? March? (Dear production crew: being forthcoming with details about the scheduling of upcoming episodes can also be a successful strategy to entice people to watch. Make note.)

There is a trailer out for a new Who series next year, starring Thirteen and company.
So, yes, we're getting a new series. Just not clear when next year.

Yeah, I've seen the series trailers, and they are far more exciting than last seasons', so fingers crossed. I guess I'm just wary of the lack of specification about when the rest of the series is actually happening. Are we rolling straight into it? Or are they putting out a New Years special to be able to say 'see? the new series is starting!' before taking a long break. Like, this series has always been slated for 'early 2020.' Much like Apple said their new Mac Pro was coming out 'this fall,' and well, they still have a whole 11 days to make that technically true.

It's hard to tell from the trailer. It does look better than last season. But, I find Chinball hit or miss writing wise -- had the same issues with him in regards to Broadchurch, and Who seasons run by Moffat, the Chinball episodes were either good or really bad.

I feel I should say something but... mind is blank. However they're all very watchable, so here's to hoping!

Although, hmmmmm, the first episode of season two of Torchwood is 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,' which is, of course, a James Bond reference. And I could well see this episode having that kind of manic cool energy. If not a homoerotically charged bar fight.

People say this, and it confuses and distresses me because they are so wrong.

It is satisfying neither as a heist nor as a time travel thing, so the whole title is a lie, really. The middle drags appallingly. The guest characters are trying to be interesting and failing. The only things saving it are that I do quite like the end reveal in that 'people trying to write heartwarming Moffat crap and not quite succeeding but getting most of the way there' way and also Clara is truly bangin' in that power suit.

IDK, it's a ton of things that I love on paper, all spectacularly failing to deliver.

ooh is there a NY special? I hadn't seen anything about it (admittedly I don't watch much telly so maybe there's been wall-to-wall trailers & I missed them) so was sadly assuming not.
