So, I wanted to learn about making icons, so I made some.  Very inefficiently, I suspect, but I think I've caught the bug and have more planned, so expect more.

River-centric because that's what I know and because I find the selection of River icons woefully lacking.

Please nab and share.  Standard disclaimers: credit [livejournal.com profile] promethia_tenk , no hotlinking, and I've been doing this all day, so please be nice to me *big eyes*

These are fairly good for a first batch. If you're looking for ways to improve [livejournal.com profile] icon_tutorial is a good place to start. Snagged a few, will credit if used.

I am always so happy to see River icons. And you even made some with Rory! There are a whole bunch of these I like. Such as River looking at the Pandorica. And the first one where she's smiling so wide for the Doctor and then the fourth one where she's giving him the, "Are you just saying BS?" look. I really look forward to seeing more from you in the future. Will credit those I use.

Yay, River and Rory icons! :D

They're all beautifully cropped... and appropriate texts are appropriate. *g*

I shall make them great friends next season through sheer force of icon-ing.
I approve of this plan!

Now I just need to figure out which icons I can delete to make room for River-Rory.

YYY! That's what the 'The Last of the Time Lords' taught us. River+Rory will spring from a ball of psychic energy.

Totally forgot -- I snagged the River-Rory without text. May take some of the others later. ;)

Finally here! And I like them very much! Lots of unusual caps (hurrah!), and I love your captions. Love, love, love.

From a purely artistic POV I especially like the one where she's writing in her diary, and the one that's bottom left, with the Doctor in the foreground. Very visually pleasing.

Also the 'light my fire' one if gorgeous, although I want it sharper. (But then I'm very fussy - even though I'd never be able to make anything half as good myself...)

Overall, I am hugely impressed and I dearly hope you keep on, since icons are awesome, and you most definitely have talent!

but really for most of her screen time she is literally behind things, on the periphery, out of focus, etc. There's something nice about the visual significance of that.
Mmm, you're right!

Case in point--horrible cap to work with. It took a lot of fiddling to even get it that clear.
I'm not surprised - half the time when I have some brilliant idea I never even get round to asking anyone, since finding a good cap isn't easy. :( But, the idea is still awesome!

There are a few of these that I really wanted to make for my own use (like the laughing one), but I think by and large I'm looking at this more as a mini picspam/art thing-y (technical term).
I approve of this very much!

Though you've probably come across this rec by now, Gimp is a really fabulous, free(!) image-editing software. It has a lot of the features of photoshop (layers and such being especially helpful for icon-makers) without being eleventy-billion dollars. You can also use downloaded fonts and brushes that were designed for photoshop on Gimp which is a real help as the standard Microsoft set is really rather dull after a while.
