1) My college roommate once memorably said of Bono: "I don't know if I want to do him, or be him." This struck me immediately as the most perfect cross-axis metric of fannish devotion. Who hits you square in the middle of the do them/be them scale?
2) What's your favorite U2 song?
3) I consider driving on the right road to the right piece of music one of life's supreme pleasures. What's a phenomenal music + transportation experience you have had?
4) When you fantasize about running away, where do you want to go?
5) What's a new food you've tried recently? Was it good?
1) Remus Lupin
2) Stay (Faraway, So Close)
3) Driving through the hills of Los Angeles at night to Tom Petty's 'Free Falling.'
4) Los Angeles. Or, alternately, getting a van to live in and driving all over. Including Los Angeles.
5) Fresh lychees. They were fantastic. Watery, luscious, and floral. Like congealed drops of orange flower water.
How about you?

3) The Cranberries ''Dreams'' coming over the radio while driving to Sydney Airport in 2008. If you ever needed a ''this is the start of your new life'' song at the right moment
4) The Aran islands
5) I had snow peas recently and they were surprisingly good. I know that's not terribly exotic but I hate most things that are green and crunchy so.

3. Your answer made me think of driving through the Grapevine Canyon with a near stranger singing I Heard It Through the Grapevine. But probably the real answer is the time I went canoeing with my friend Noah and we spent the whole time singing water-themed songs. What can I say, I get inspired by my surroundings.
4. A houseboat in Amsterdam.
5. I had an impossible burger recently, it was fucking incredible.

Date: 23 Jun 2018 06:47 am (UTC)2. Mysterious Ways (On your knees, boy!)
3. Over the Sydney Harbour Bridge in an MG with the top down, listening to Weather with You by Crowded House. Just blue skies and ocean everywhere and being twenty and immortal. (I have a dystopian opposite: over the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne weaving between long-haul trucks, suspended over industial parks and listening to one of the Brandenburg concertos. I felt like I was trapped in the soundtrack to Kubrick's 2001.)
4. One of those portable tiny houses with a solar panel on the top, and down to the coast.
5. Amaranth corn chips. Really nice and nutty and much less sharp/chemical tasting than regular corn chips.

Date: 23 Jun 2018 09:29 pm (UTC)1) IDK. It doesn't really fit with how I interact with stuff. I tend to find characters interesting who are very different to me, but I'd never want to be them...
2) Probably Cedarwood Road. Because it's the perfect 12 & Clara song.
3) Don't know about phenomenal, but we were once driving down to Cambridge, on the motorway blasting out Meat Loaf.
4) Again, I would prefer everyone else to just go away and have the house to myself for like a month.
5) ... Sorry, mind is blank.

3) Going to visit my parents, and The Who's "Baba O'Riley" kicking in as i crested the hill that marked the "city" limits of the town closest to my childhood home.
4) Seattle? I'm already here. i fantasize about being here but being independently wealthy. although sometimes i do fantasize about getting on the next Amtrak train to leave when i'm switching busses near King Street Station.
5) i was introduced to super Tuscan wine this week. i tried two. they're more complex than a Chianti. i approve.

Date: 24 Jun 2018 12:52 pm (UTC)4) I had to look them up. Gorgeous.
5) Lol. I do love snow peas. And they are, like, the least vegetable-y of all vegetables.

Date: 24 Jun 2018 12:58 pm (UTC)3) Lol. I feel deeply literal in my tastes for these things as well. My runner-up pick was driving across Kansas to Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes ('I'm going to Wichita . . . ba dum, dum, dum, daaaaahhh . . .')
4) I ran across a soundscape thing on the internet once that was a recording of the sounds on an Amsterdam houseboat (with some accompanying pictures.) Soooooo relaxing.
5) I want to try one of those because, damn. But sadly current dietary restrictions don't allow it.

Ooooooo *shivers* That is fantastic.
4) Yeeeessss. Sometimes my van fantasy is a tiny house fantasy instead.

3) Meat Loaf is some good motorway blasting, for true.
4) Send them away to something fun and then lock them out?

*pets* Hope things calm down for you. I'm back in PA again (grandfather's funeral) and just feel like I've been running around and around.
See oddly enough then the Seeker might sort of fulfill the criteria, because he's *my* character, but for a lot of the main story we're in his girl friend's POV... *tilts head* Although I don't think that is quite what you had in mind.
4) Send them away to something fun and then lock them out?
THAT IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT HAPPENED. Like, everyone slept it and I just though 'Sod it, having a lazy day', but then Darcy decided that actually he wanted to go to his parents for the regular Sunday lunch (and then watch the football) leaving me with only Miss M (who is of course a darling introvert ♥) so I have a lazy sunny afternoon to myself. Am writing.
Hope your weekend is as good as can be in the circumstances.

Date: 24 Jun 2018 01:13 pm (UTC)Ooo, I like that.
2) I've never heard that one, somehow. Thanks!
3) Awww, yeah. That's good.
4) Lucky you. Seattle's definitely been on my running away fantasy list before. Sometimes on a rare day, the atmosphere around me will feel exactly like Seattle and I just kind of luxuriate in it.

Huzzah!

Pretty good so far. The sister and I went to see a live podcast recording in Philly and I successfully drove both into and out of the city without dying (bit of a feet). And today the sun has actually come out and I can sit out on the patio and enjoy the weather. It has been raining constantly for what feels like months now, which is very unusual around here and everybody is crabby.

Date: 24 Jun 2018 01:57 pm (UTC)The nice weather was a good thing yesterday though. Was/am tired b/c Impish Girl's birthday party. It had a Might Boosh theme and was v successful, but am needing to re-cuperate now.
ETA: Re. your final question, then as part of the party we did drink Bailey's from a shoe, which I don't think anyone had tried before, but which we all approved of. (Not literally out of a show, we put a small cup inside the heel.) This is a Might Boosh thing. It is the craziest show.

Date: 24 Jun 2018 02:02 pm (UTC)5) My sister and I gave one to my dad at a taste of the nation thing, without telling him what it was, and then when we told him it was a veggie burger he refused to believe us until we showed him their booth. I'm so sorry you can't try them!
