The sister railed at me about how much money and effort they obviously expended on the opening sequence on the desert planet when a simple 'Captain's log . . . ' and a bit of banter stuck in later would have accomplished exactly the same thing. You gotta respect the format.
I can't deal with the aesthetic. It just sets my teeth on edge. It's like they took Babylon 5 and bleached it or something. Stick it out to episode 3 if you haven't. It sets up what the show is going to properly be, and the Discovery looks less awful. More of a blue-ish Voyager/Enterprise but updated look. And that Ni-ish Bryan Fuller edge comes in.
