There were two. Just some really mean gerbils, I think.
My old roommate, at one point, she had three gerbils (named Luci, Placi, and Jose, for the three tenors). We could never quite tell them apart, so the names were interchangeable, but eventually one of them had to be isolated from the other two because he kept trying to kill them.
