Like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.
So when I signed up for the
spoiler_song holiday fic exchange, I will admit I hesitated for a moment before putting in my request for a fic inspired by the Song of Solomon. Oh me of little faith:
Thy Love is Better Than Wine by
myconstant : doctor who. eleven/river. adult. 1802 words. no spoilers.
It's a spectacular fic just on its own merits, but don't cheat yourself: read the poem (No really, dammit, read it! There's a reason it's a classic). Then read the fic. Repeat. Let them resonate with each other. Feel all the nuances bleeding back and forth between them. Stare at the wall a bit. Read again. Realize you're never going to see either source material in quite the same way again.
Excuse me, I feel like being a bit speechless for awhile longer . . .

You put in a request for fic inspired by the Song of Solomon???? That's the most brilliant thing I've ever heard!

It fit too perfectly not to, though. I was stealing phrasings and atmospherics from it back in the summer but wasn't sure I could do proper justice to the whole thing. I love when things work out like this.

funnily enough, that's pretty much what I did after reading it a couple of hours ago. Definitely one of my favourite fics ever, now.
