Oh, that makes much more sense. I thought you were talking about her characterization in the show rather than in fandom. I completely agree that in fandom tends to write her a little OTT, partially because we know so little about her I think. I thought River was objecting to what she did in the finale or something and my mind was like, "What? No. She was epically awesome in the finale!" But, of course, you weren't saying that. :D
