Star Trekkin . . .

Saw the first two episodes of the new Star Trek and overall am cautiously optimistic. Despite the stupidly extravagant budget, the drunken camera angles, the tedious and unnecessary scenes on the Klingon ship, and the criminal under-use of Michelle Yeoh. But.

Taking the great and noble Star Trek tradition we all love to hate of sending the captain and first officer off together on a stupidly dangerous mission without backup and then USING THAT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACTUALLY KILL THE CAPTAIN? I'm sorry, I feel like you were probably trying to create a shocking 'hoshit, this isn't your mother's Star Trek' moment, but, like. That's not cricket. This is Star Trek. We all know the rules.

I expect the command team for the rest of this show to display a proper amount of precaution when choosing who to send on away missions from now on. You just destroyed any eye-roll-y good will we ever offered to this ridiculous but convenient and, in its own way, beloved narrative convention. You monsters.
