You know what? It hadn't even occurred to me that someone could interpret that line in that way. Ok, the thing is, every other fic I've read that takes place in meta include as a character "author" and the author of the fic can actually talk with the characters and often they fight with each other about how they're going to fill the prompt "you're not going to get me to do that!" etc, etc. This fic included an "author" to for a long while, but I eventually decided I was superfluous and wrote myself out. So in my mind it was pretty clear that in meta one was likely to run into fic writers and so obviously River was complaining about how she was being characterized in fic. But you're right--that could completely be interpreted as her griping about how she is on the show.
